Sustainability at Mamala Surf
At Mamala Surf, we believe that sustainability starts with durability. Our wetsuits are crafted for lasting performance, comfort, and warmth—minimizing waste and ensuring you get the most out of every session.
We’ve tested various natural and recycled materials, but none match the premium performance and longevity of Yamamoto 40 limestone-based neoprene from Japan. This high-quality material offers superior stretch, warmth, and durability compared to natural rubbers, recycled alternatives and other neoprenes.
Why Yamamoto 40 Limestone Neoprene?
Sustainability isn’t just about material sourcing—it’s about longevity and reduced waste. Independent testing has shown that Yamamoto 40 outlasts other neoprenes, making it the most eco-conscious choice for high-performance wetsuits. Until natural or recycled materials can match Yamamoto’s UV and ozone resistance without additives—and be manufactured closer to production facilities—limestone-based neoprene remains the best option for performance and sustainability.

How is Yamamoto limestone-based neoprene made?
Sourcing: Limestone is mined near the Yamamoto factory in Japan and transported for processing.
Production: Heat transforms calcium carbonate (limestone) into chloroprene chips.
Formation: The chips are then heated, aerated, and formed into flexible foam sheets, cut into different thicknesses depending on the wetsuit design.

How are Mamala Surf wetsuits made after Yamamoto neoprene is cut into sheets?
Lining: Yamamoto neoprene is laminated to stretchy fabric for added strength and flexibility.
Precision Cutting: Panels are cut for a women-specific fit before being assembled.
Core Warmth: Fleece is added to the entire core for extra insulation.
Seam Construction: Wetsuits are assembled using double-blind stitching (where the needle doesn’t penetrate the full neoprene thickness) and 100% glued seams to prevent water entry.
Reinforcement: Interior seams are fully taped for durability.
Final Touches: Zippers, key pockets and logos are added to complete the wetsuit.
At Mamala Surf, we’re committed to delivering performance-driven wetsuits with sustainability in mind. By choosing durable, high-quality materials, we reduce waste and ensure every wetsuit stands the test of time—so you can focus on the waves.
